MEL - digital oil. I am pleased how well this one came out. I captured a good likelness and was successful with bolder strokes.Colors pleased me on this one as well. Very relaxing compared to other portraits I have done. Thanks Mel for the use of your face. Posted by Hello

This is.... by far, my best portrait yet. Strong lines, good value, and muted color, made this possible.

If you look carefully, you will see that I put most of the detail in eyes and mouth. The rest of Mel is broad planes of color mildly blended. It is amazing how this works. I love it when it does come together. I started with the Muck-up phase of blocking in large areas of color to set the landscape and pace for details. Blending and paying attention to values made that easier. The final stages are layers of color with smaller brushes and more transparent color. I stayed simple with my colors, blending them to a more muted stage on the canvas. I love working with digital, I do not have to wait for paints to dry. I have 7 other paints in conventional oil going right now and I am waiting for them to dry.
