Here is a painting done in Painter IX using three oil brushes. The painting is based on the photo reference in the lower left corner. This is about 5-1/2 hours of work. I layered the work to isolate each area. Eyes, nose and mouth on one layer and hair and clothes on another layer. I further isolated areas of the face to get the look I was after. I softened the face with oil blender brushes varying sizes as I went. I pushed the colors to get a little more excitement that the photo offered. I simplified the background to draw attention her beautiful face. I had to keep telling myself to stay soft in the face. Children have less edge and line to their face. I accented the facial planes to show how the light was interacting with her features. Skin is so transparent. I made an attempt to show some of this transparency with color, dancing warm and cool together and occassionally bumping each other. I had a lot of fun with her hair. I simpified her locks to bring more expressiveness to her face. I dare you to not like her, she is beautiful. reference photo provided by anitapatterso of WC artist community.
